About

A ship master, commonly called a ship's captain or sea captain, commands a ship that transports passengers, freight, and other cargo across oceans, bays, lakes, and in coastal waters.

The captain ensures that the ship complies with local and international laws, sets the course of a ship, coordinates the activities of crewmembers, oversees observance of all safety procedures, and takes responsibility for maintaining the ship's certificates and documentation.
